Faithful workers working faithfully
I thank God for you…
I want to express a heart full of thanks to all who responded to the “retirement fund” for Freddie. This was done behind my back and under my nose.
When I stepped in that room at Westhill in Corsicana I was so surprised that my mouth flew open and I got a headache. I was blessed, surprised, and even impressed with the stealth. It was extra nice.
Larry & Jill Golden of Plainview were the force behind this. They got names from my wife and those friends they gave other names. People traveled from south Texas. West Texas, and far east Texas.
My son who just got back from Belgium surprised me by being there along with the daughter from north Texas.
I was floored to see the people and posters were on the wall for the “Freddie Fan Club” celebrating “25 Years” and “2,000 baptisms.”
Nice people said nice things about me with Larry being the MC. My wife went first, our children followed and others after that.
A fund has been set up available upon retirement. Yes, I did fuss and ask many why they did not tell me and they responded that they worked hard to keep it from me.
BIG JACK
First, the preacher called asking me to check on this inmate and ended up asking me to come to his congregation. Busy but I said, “Yes.”
The preacher had an agenda. He told me of this ex inmate I did not know and that the man was not doing good.
The preacher was more concerned about the man’s daughter who had four children, his mother and his non-christian father. After the sermon I spent time with the daughter and met her children; encouraged the mother; and the father got the gospel preached to him. “Big Jack” was also there. I found out that he had been in prison but practiced Islam in prison and is now a member of the church.
“Big Jack” was at the end of his rope and was about to give up but the message and someone knowing where he came from helped him tremendously. He called me a few minutes ago.
WE ARE STILL IN NEED OF FUNDS FOR SUPPORT.
HAS CONNECTED WELL WITH THE SPANISHSPEAKING INMATES AND IS DOING A GOOD WORK.
ALL OF YOU KNOW OF THE EVER INCREASING NUMBER OFINMATES OF SPANISH ORIGIN AND THE NECESSITY OF REACHING THEM WITH THE GOSPEL.
WE PRAYED FOR A LONG TIME FOR SOMEONE TO COME AND HERE PAUL IS. IF THERE A WAY FOR YOU TO HELP MAKE YOUR SPECIAL CONTRIBUTION TO “FOR SPANISH MINISTRY” AND WE WILL USE IT ACCORDINGLY.

Prison Routine; Prision rules; Prison Rights

Things happen in the prison baffling the sensibility of the people who know nothing or little about prison life, the routine and the thinking of those in authority. For example:

After weeks of teaching, answering questions and working with the inmates on this one prison eight men requested baptism. GREAT! Let’s get these guys changed into baptism garments and go straight into the water, just like church. Nope, doesn’t work that way.

First, get permission from the chaplain who has to talk to the warden. The chaplain gets permission, sets the date, gets a clearance from security, and if the inmate needs a change of clothes ( we baptized them in their underwear) a request has to made for those items. More permissions are granted that are subject to change with a change of subject.

Well, the chaplain gave his (there are some “HER” chaplains) permission and a date to do the baptism. There are some prisons that have pools in the chapel, some portable baptisteries BUT every unit doesn’t have a place to baptize at all. We’ve had to baptize in tanks and troughs that have been set up in showers, narrow halls and outside. We “bring in” the baptistery, set it up on the grass or sidewalk and fill it with water from a hose. Cold water.

The eight men, in this case, were ready. Everything was approved. The baptisms were going to take place outside on the Sunday that happened to be one of the coldest days of the year. The officer in charged said, “Too cold to baptize inmates outside with cold water.” He was right but I was deflated and so were the men.

Let’s start the process all over again: permission from chaplain, a new date, permission from the warden, authority notified, etc. you know the routine. But on Jan. 18th seven men were baptized into Christ. I (all) couldn’t be more happy. Would I do it all again? “YES.” Will I do it again? “HOPEFULLY SOON.” (next article will discuss why it is so complicated to do a simple baptism)

I am Debtor

Several months ago I decided to go back to Honduras to visit with my brothers and sisters in Christ who helped me while I prepared myself to preach the Good News. In reality I owe much of my spiritual life to them therefore “I am obligated.”
Before I left I made many telephone calls to let them know of my coming visit, renew our friendship, to encourage them in the Faith and to counsel those who were hurting. They were strengthened and looked forward to my visit.
I went to Honduras in early December 2008 and was warmly greeted by all. They opened their homes to me and fed me well, even though many of them had to sacrifice in order to do so. I spent many hours teaching and preaching Christ to both men and women who are incarcerated in the jails and prisons there and distributed items such as deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, etc. that were supplied by Christians in Texas.
The time in Honduras flew by. Soon I was on the plane back to my new home and my family. I feel that the visit was well worth the effort. The brothers and sisters in Honduras were encouraged; the visits to the jails and the prisons had a positive effect on the men and women; and the Lord is praised. Although the time spent in Honduras was well spent, I was glad to return home to my wife and children.
In addition to above, my Wynne Unit class is going well. We are studying the Acts of the Apostles and attendance has been very good each week. The men are good Bible students and there is much encouragement of each other in the group.
